- PreviewThe hand surgeon must be familiar with all aspects of hand pathology, and while faced with dermatological pathology in daily practice, a comprehensive understanding of skin pathology is often lacking. Dermatological pathology may have an impact on the hand surgeon in multiple ways—before surgery (requiring optimization), after surgery, or by mimicking surgical pathology (whereby surgical management may be contraindicated). Adequate knowledge of the basics of dermatology allows for optimal patient care.
