Bone Graft Substitutes: Current Uses in Hand Surgery

      Bone grafts are used for their structural properties, biologic properties, or both. Substitutes have been increasingly used and have appeal over traditional iliac crest autologous bone grafting due to their ease of use, decreased operating time, and lack of donor site morbidity. They can be used alone or in combination with each other, or they can serve as expanders when added to autologous graft.
